Overview of Ba Thien Hau Pagoda
As one of the oldest temples of the Chinese community in Saigon, Ba Thien Hau Pagoda is not only a spiritual place but also a lasting symbol of traditional culture.
The pagoda worships Thien Hau, also known as Lam Mac Nuong, originating from Mi Chau Island, Fujian, China. Legend has it that she was endowed with supernatural abilities when she was just 14 months old. The Chinese believe that she protected them through all difficulties during their migration journey to Vietnam.
In 1760 (18th century), a group of Chinese people of Tue Thanh origin built this temple. After 261 years, the pagoda still retains its unique architectural beauty and was recognized as a national architectural and artistic relic since January 7, 1993.
